Vikings are victorious on diamond against Braves

Teays Valley scored five runs in its first three at-bats on Friday to open Mid-State League Buckeye Division softball play with a 7-1 win over visiting Logan Elm.
Lindsey VanHoose led off the game with a solo home run over the left field fence to give Logan Elm a 1-0 lead, but the Vikings responded in their half of the first inning with three runs.
Emma Helwagen singled, stole second and advanced to third following a flyout by Morgan Cantrell. Faith Thompson then singled to right with two outs to score Helwagen.
Reagan Mengerink followed with a triple to right that brought around Thompson to give the Vikings the lead for good. A wild pitch allowed Mengerink to score and put the Vikings ahead 3-1.
Mengerink led the Vikings by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, Kennedy Cauger was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, Alyssa Brown contributed a 2-for-4 evening with an RBI and Helwagen was 2-for-4 and scored.
Madison Cline allowed five hits and an earned run over four and one-third innings to earn the win. Sydney Manring finished the final two and two-third innings, allowed a hit, walked one and struck out five.
VanHoose paced the Braves with two hits and Erin Gaskin doubled.
The Vikings (3-0, 1-0) travel to Groveport today for non-league games against state powers Wheelersburg and Walsh Jesuit. The Braves (0-4, 0-1) host Jackson for a non-league twin bill.

Bloom-Carroll used a four-run first inning on Friday to seize the lead early in an 8-4 MSL-Buckeye win over host Circleville.
A three-run fifth highlighted the offensive effort of the Tigers. Ella Michael doubled twice, and Cara Cooper, Alyssa Liston and Gracie Riddick all singled twice.
The Tigers (2-1, 0-1) travel to Fairfield Union on Monday to continue league play.

Matthew Farmer tossed a complete game, two-hitter on Friday to send Teays Valley to a 7-0 MSL-Buckeye win over Logan Elm at VA Memorial Stadium.
Farmer walked a batter and struck out seven in the 83-pitch outing.
The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, doubled their advantage in the third and went ahead 5-0 through four.
Will Murphy went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored and Adam Trisler doubled and scored for the Vikings.
Braylen Baker had both hits for the Braves.
Logan Elm (0-3, 0-1) travels to Chillicothe today for a non-league doubleheader and Teays Valley (1-0, 1-0) continues league play on Monday at Amanda-Clearcreek.

Amanda-Clearcreek dropped its MSL-Buckeye opener on Friday in Baltimore.
Ryan Chambers was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI and Peyton Cassley doubled and scored for the Aces (1-2, 0-1), who travel to VA Memorial Stadium today for a non-league game against Athens.
