Olentangy upsets Vikings in district semifinal

No. 16 seeded Olentangy scored an unearned run in the fifth inning on Tuesday and pitcher Jaelyn Peterson made it stand up to upset fifth-seeded Teays Valley 1-0 in a Division I Central District semifinal held at Olentangy.


Peterson checked the Vikings to three hits, walked four and struck out five.


TV starter Madison Cline allowed one hit and the unearned run over five innings and Sydney Manring tossed two scoreless innings.


Morgan Cantrell, Emma Helwagen and Reagan Mengerink each singled for the Vikings, who had runners on second and seventh with two outs but could not dent the plate.


The Vikings finish the season at 23-2 and Mid-State League Buckeye Division champions.

Fairfield 5,
Westfall 1

Fairfield scored four runs in its first three at-bats on Tuesday on its way to a 5-1 Division III Southeast District semifinal over Westfall at Unioto.


The Mustangs (15-9) scored their run in the fifth on a Madison Kearney single to score Logan McNeal.
