Tigers one-hit Cavaliers in 8-0 win

Logan Smith allowed just one hit over six innings pitched on Saturday in leading Circleville to an 8-0 non-league shutout of host Chillicothe at VA Memorial Stadium.

Smith threw 81 pitches in the outing, walked a pair of batters and struck out 11. Hunter Davis came on and threw a scoreless inning, striking out a batter.

Circleville opened the season by scoring twice in its first at-bat.

Smith helped his own cause by smacking the first pitch he saw to right field for a two-out triple that knocked in Nolan West. Smith then scored on a passed ball.

The Tigers went back to work in the third when Scott Moats reached on an infield single with one out, advanced to third on a single to left off the bat of West and was joined on the base pads when Tate DeBord singled on a wind-blown infield fly.

Smith then hit a sacrifice fly to right that scored Moats.

Circleville went on to score three more runs in the fifth, once in the sixth and again in the seventh.

West was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Drew Thornsley went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Austin Gray contributed a 2-for-3 evening and scored and Matt Bradley was 2-for-4 and scored.

The Tigers (1-0) return to VA Memorial Stadium on Tuesday to face Hillsboro, with first pitch slated for approximately 7 p.m.
