Mustangs seize initiative to rout Redstreaks

A quick start gave Westfall an early advantage on Wednesday in a 13-0 Scioto Valley Conference win over host Piketon.

The Mustangs scored four runs in their first at-bat, loading the bases with one out when Delana Landefeld legged out an infield single, Ava Heath worked a walk and Makayla Cook was hit by a pitch.

Gabby Henry reached on an infield single that allowed Landefeld to put the Mustangs ahead 1-0.

After a pop out, Emma Henry reached on an error by the left fielder that allowed Heath, courtesy runner Logan McNeal and Gabby Henry to all score.

The Mustangs went ahead 5-0 in the second when Cook hit a two-out single to left that knocked in Landefeld.

Westfall scored its final eight runs in the seventh inning, which included a two-run single by Madison Kearney, an RBI double from Landefeld and was kick started with a three-run double off the bat of Olivia Dumm.

Westfall’s Delana Landefeld, seen here earlier this season, had two hits, drove in a run and scored three times on Wednesday in a 13-0 win over Piketon.

Heath went 3-for-4 and scored twice, Landefeld was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored, Gabby Henry contributed a 2-for-3 evening with an RBI and two runs scored and Cook added a 2-for-3 stat line that included an RBI.

Dumm tossed 85 pitches, 64 for strikes, in the complete game win, allowing two hits and striking out 13 for the Mustangs (4-4, 3-1), who travel to Wellston on Thursday for a non-conference game.
