Vikings use six-run fifth to defeat Falcons

Teays Valley erupted for six runs in the fifth inning on Wednesday to seize the lead for good on its way to a 11-5 Mid-State League Buckeye Division win over visiting Fairfield Union.

Reagan Mengerink, Alyssa Brown and Alyvia Lawrentz worked walks to load the bags full of Vikings with one out.

Sydney Manring then grounded into a fielder’s choice that resulted in Mengerink being forced out at home for the second out of the inning.

Abbi Revalee lined a 3-2 offering to center to drive in both Brown and Lawrentz and put the Vikings ahead 5-3.

Revalee then scored on a delayed double steal and Morgan Cantrell reached on an error.

Another delayed double steal resulted in Brumfield scoring and Cantrell taking second.

Micah Mann then lined a single to center to drive in Cantrell.

Revalee went 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored, Manring was 2-for-4, including a solo homer, with an RBI and three runs scored, and Brumfield added a 2-for-5 evening with an RBI and two runs scored.

Lawrentz allowed two hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings to earn the win. She walked three, hit a batter and struck out eight. Isabel Sayre tossed the final two frames to finish the 26th league win in a row for Teays Valley.

The Vikings (19-3, 10-0) continue league play on Friday at Hamilton Township.
