Vikings remain ranked in state softball poll

Teays Valley was ranked for the fourth consecutive week on Monday in the Division I state poll by the Ohio Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The Vikings check in ranked 10th this week, swapping spots with Ohio Capital Conference Buckeye Division champion Lancaster, which is ranked ninth. The Gales defeated the Vikings 8-0 late last month in a non-league game.

Holland Springfield tops the Division I poll, which concludes Central District powers Watkins Memorial in second and Gahanna in seventh.

Teays Valley is scheduled to travel to Watkins Memorial (21-0) on Monday for a non-league game featuring two of the top three seeds in the upcoming Division I Central District tournament.

The Vikings (22-3, 13-0), which wrapped up their second consecutive outright Mid-State League Buckeye Division championship last week, will try to extend their league winning streak to 30 games on Friday when they travel to Hamilton Township.

Four Southeast District teams are ranked in Division II, led by top-ranked Athens and also including Unioto (fifth), Sheridan (ninth) and John Glenn (10th).

If the higher seeds all win their tournament-opener this week, Logan Elm would meet Athens and Circleville would tangle with Sheridan next Monday in district semifinal action at Ohio University.

Wheelersburg remains top-ranked in Division III and Portsmouth West is ranked eighth.

Portsmouth West would be the likely district semifinal opponent for the winner of a sectional final game between Westfall and Fairfield.
