CIRCLEVILLE — Teays Valley had the youngest squad in the Mid-State League Buckeye Division cross country championships Saturday – and the fastest.
With four freshmen and three sophomores competing, the TV girls placed all five of their scoring runners in the top 12 to post a team score of 35 with Fairfield Union placing second with a score of 52.
Circleville was fifth with 106 and Logan Elm was seventh with 115. Amanda-Clearcreek didn’t have enough runners for a team score.
Fairfield Union had a perfect score to win the boys titles as the Falcons took the top five spots for a score of 15. Bloom-Carroll was second with a 52.
Teays Valley placed fourth with a score of 128, Logan Elm was sixth with 137 and Circleville was seventh with 200. Amanda-Clearcreek didn’t have enough runners for a team score.
Fairfield Union’s Anna Conrad won the girls race in 19:06.9 while Teays Valley’s Katy Zang was second in 19:23.0.
Circleville’s Maddux Bigam took third in 19:44.0 and Teays Valley’s Reese Galinger was fourth in 20:18.4.
On the boys’ side, the future looks bright for Fairfield Union as the Falcons’ top three runners are all juniors with a sophomore and freshman rounding out the scoring.
Andrew Walton was the race winner with a time of 15:18.0
Logan Elm’s Owen Russell was the top local runner placing 12th in a time of 17:29.6.
