Lady Vikings, Westfall boys, four individuals advance to regionals

District cross country championships were held around the state Saturday. 

In the Central District, Teays Valley’s girls’ team advanced to the Division I regional. 

In the Southeast District, Westfall’s boys advanced as a team and Circleville’s Maddux Bigam and Emma Groff and Westfall’s Caitlyn Shipley and Anay Sierra advanced as individuals to the Division II regional. 

They all will be competing in the regional held at Pickerington High School North this coming Saturday. The Division II girls’ race will take place at noon, the Division II boys run at 12:45 and the Division I girls will run at 2 p.m.

Central District at Hilliard Darby High School
Girls – Division 1, Section 2

With five teams advancing to next week’s regional meet, Teays Valley’s girls grabbed the fifth spot in their section at the Central District championships. 

Led by sophomore Katy Zang finishing eighth, the Vikings managed a team score of 137 points. Marysville won the section with a score of 64 and Dublin Jerome was second with a score of 79. 

Dublin Jerome’s Helen Randolph won the race in a time of 17:53.90. 

Zang was eighth in 19:05.89. Reese Galinger was 19th in 19:48.8, Addison Keplar was 30th in 20:24.38, Iris Ardrey was 39th in 20:53.14 and Grace Thanasack rounded out the scoring in 41st in 20:59.13. 
Kate Charter was 62nd in 21:45.39 and Claire Krouse was 69th in 22:23.14.

The Vikings will run in the regional at Pickerington North on Saturday. 

Boys – Division 1, Section 1

Teays Valley’s boys wrapped up their season with a 14th place finish in their section. 

Westerville North won the section with a team score of 52 and Dublin Scioto was second with 79. 

Teays Valley had 419 team points. 

Ben Gabelman of Westerville North won the race with a time of 14:55.06.

Junior Rueger Shrewsberry was the top finisher for the Vikings in 68th place with a time of 17:50.31.

Clark Thompson was 74th (18:17.56), Jacob Kulish was 92nd (19:31.56), Brayden Fraley was 93rd (19:32.40) and Michael Charter rounded out the scoring finishing 95th (19:37.56). 

Colin Carvel was 96th (19:38.06) and Nolan Lupfer was 98th (10:45.56).

Boys – Division 2, Section 1

Amanda-Clearcreek’s boys completed their season on Saturday. Their section was won by Jonathan Alder with 41 points and Bloom-Carroll was second with 58. 

Alder’s Brady Tremayne won the race in a time of 16:11.70. 

Freshman Gavin Moore led the Aces placing 47th in 18:55.20, Brylon Ritchie was 63rd in 20:48.95, Cole Kochenderfer was 66th in 21:52.44 and Isaac Stout was 67th in 25:06.45.

Girls – Division 3, Section 1

Amanda-Clearcreek’s girls wrapped up their season Saturday with four runners competing in the district. 

Fairbanks’ Ava Lahmers won the race in 19:51.21.

Freshman Olivia Chaffin was 41st in 23:50.96, Elaina Van Gundy was 60th in 27:07.95, Macy Horn was 62nd in 27:31.71 and Lilly Chaffin was 68th in 35:24.19.

Girls – Division 2

While the season came to an end for three area teams Saturday, four individuals advanced to the regional at Pickerington High School North. 

Circleville’s Maddux Bigam was fifth, Westfall’s Caitlyn Shipley was sixth, Westfall’s Anay Sierra was ninth and Emma Groff was 25th to advance as individuals.

Sophia Szolosi from Athens won the race in 18:25.66. 

Bigam ran the 5,000 meters in 20:11.57, Shipley completed the course in 20:22.98 and Sierra ran the race in 20:38.14.

The top eight teams advanced to the regional with Athens in first with 67 points and Fairfield Union was second with 89. 

Logan Elm placed ninth with 253 points, Circleville was 10th with 262 points and Westfall was 12th with 264. 

Logan Elm was led by junior Ella Borland in 32nd (21:58.21). Maggie Wilson was 43rd (22:39.96), Chloe Anderson was 49th (22:58.56), Lily Pressley was 57th (23:11.99) and Ryleigh Martin rounded out the scoring in 79th (24:58.69).

Clara Wilson was 102nd (26:57.38) and Alivia Stephens was 109th (27:24.04).

Following Bigam (20:11.53) and Groff (21:46.78) in were Aly Hatfield was 59th (23:27.35), Ellie Patrick was 61st (23:27.56) and Aggie Search completed the scoring finishing 122nd (28:46.86). Jade Derricott was 133rd(31:25.97).

Along with Shipley (20:22.98) and Sierra (20:38.14), Gabby Henry was 53rd (23:07.69), Itzel Sierra-Arteage was 98th (26:47.71) and Natalie Yates rounded out the scoring in 106th (27:10.15). 

Makalie Crabtree was 107th (27:11.14) and Reese Paudicz was 108th (27:22.28).

Boys – Division 2

Westfall advanced to the regional while Saturday’s district meet wrapped up the season for Circleville and Logan Elm.

Fairfield Union won the meet with a score of 35 and Sheridan was second with 69. 

Westfall advanced by placing seventh with 205 team points, Logan Elm was 14th with 404 points while Circleville did not have enough runners for a team score. 

The Mustangs will complete at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Pickerington North.

Fairfield Union’s Andrew Walton won the race with a time of 15:28.65. 

Junior Josh Trapp led Westfall in 25th (17:54.84), Trent Gardner was 26th (17:57.75), Henry Barnes was 29th (18:00.80), Brody Williams was 66th (18:58.01), and Nate Wolfe completed the scoring in 69th (19:11.70).

Mason Barnes was 75th (19:27.09) and Kaedin Hanson was 93rd (20:05.00).

Freshman Owen Russell led Logan Elm in 23rd with a time of 17:48.55. Dane Liggins was 70th (19:16.78), Keegan Kidd was 78th (19:33.01), Scott Gaskins was 122nd (21:23.81) and Parker Disbennett rounded out the scoring in 129th(21:37.62). 

Nehmiah Hess was 138th (22:09.77) and Hank Palmer was 147th (22:57.51).

Senior Sterlin Mullins led Circleville finishing 89th (19:54.08), Brandon Patrick was 101st (20:23.32), Drace Johnson was 146th (22:48.24) and Dylan MacDougall was 150th (23:14.86).
