Braves top Tigers; Westfall doubles up on Piketon; Vikings fall to Bulldogs; Aces lose lead late to Falcons

BB — Logan Elm 10, Circleville 1

CIRCLEVILLE — Logan Elm got out quickly with three runs in each of the first two innings on the way to a 10-1 win over visiting Circleville Wednesday.

After LE’s first three batters reached in the first inning and an out was recorded, Zane Seimer hit a ball to short that resulted in a run scoring, though a second runner thrown out trying to score. 

Carson Summers singled to bring in two more and get LE a 3-0 lead. 

With one out in the bottom of the second, LE’s Josh Hunter reached on an error, Kyle Rine singled and a double from Camden Ebert brought in a run. 

After a strikeout, Keegan Diehl singled to left which brought in two more runs to make LE’s lead 6-0.

Following 1-2-3 innings in the second and third, Circleville got on the scoreboard in the fourth. 

Austin Grey reached on an error and Lane Adams was hit by a pitch to give the Tigers base runners and they moved up on a groundout. A sacrifice fly from Hudson Phalin brought in Grey to make the score 6-1. 

The Braves scored three more times in the fifth.

With one out, LE loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Rine singled to drive in a run, Ebert singled to bring in another and a third run was scored when the ball was misplayed on a fly ball in the infield. 

Summers scored LE’s 10th run in the sixth when he walked, took second on a passed ball and came around on an RBI single from Eplin.

Grant Cline got the win for the Braves as he held Circleville to one run in six innings of work.

Grant Cline got the wins for the Braves as he went six innings while walking three and striking out three. Kelton Bennington pitched the seventh, walking two and striking out two. 

JD Reuter took the loss for the Tigers as he gave up nine runs in 4.1 innings of work. He walked three and struck out seven. 

Kaiden Bigley pitched two-thirds on an inning, walking one. Kiser Cassidy pitched an inning, walking one and striking out one. 

BB — Westfall 16, Piketon 8

PIKETON — Westfall pounded out 18 hits in posting an 18-6 win at Piketon Wednesday. 

Bryce Wickline led the hit parade going 4-4 and scoring four times. 

Trent Walters went 3-5, including a triple, and drove in two. 

Brenden Tuttle, Brendan Biegler, Cory Green and Caleb Lowe each had two hits in the contest. 

The Mustangs scored in six of their seven at-bats – highlighted by a five-run fourth. 

Green got the win for the Mustangs. He went 4.2 innings allowing seven runs (three earned) on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts. 

Lowe pitched 2.1 innings in relief giving up an unearned run on two walks and two strikeouts. 

BB — Bloom-Carroll 4, Teays Valley 0

CARROLL — Teays Valley was limited to three singles in falling 4-0 at Bloom-Carroll Wednesday. 

After BC scored in the first, TV put a threat together in the second. 

Landon Vandegrift led off with a single and Brody Weiler reached on an error. Both moved up on a sacrifice bunt from Landen Hankinson. But the threat was ended as BC’s Andrew Hall got a strikeout for the second out and then got the next batter to pop up to shortstop. 

TV never had more than a single baserunner in an inning the rest of the way.

Along with Vandegrift, Westin Woodrum and Landen Hankinson each had a single for TV. 

Weiler took the loss for the Vikings as he went four innings and gave up four runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts. 

Luke Reese pitched two innings in relief and struck out two.

BB — Fairfield Union 10, Amanda-Clearcreek 8

AMANDA — Amanda-Clearcreek jumped out to an early lead but Fairfield Union came back in the later innings to record a 10-8 win.

The Aces chased the Falcons’ starter in the first inning as they scored seven runs on three hits, two walks, a hit batter, a fielder’s choice, a sacrifice fly, a wild pitch and a steal of home. 

The score stayed 7-0 in favor of the Aces until the top of the fourth. 

After an out to open the inning, FU had a walk, a hit batter, three consecutive singles, a walk, a hit batter and then a fielder’s choice to make the score 7-5. 

AC answered with an RBI single from Breece Stone in the bottom of the inning for an 8-5 lead.

FU answered with a run in the fifth and then took the lead in the sixth.

FU opened the sixth with a walk by Aiden McCafferty and he took second on a wild pitch and stole third. A fielder’s choice brought in McCafferty. 

An error and a sacrifice put two runners in scoring position. Another sacrifice bunt led to two runs scoring and the Falcons went up 9-8.

The Falcons added a run in the seventh to cap their comeback.

Brody Elder started for the Aces and went 3.1 innings. He gave up three earned runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts. 

Cole Schif faced three batters giving up two runs on two hits and a walk. 

Leland Riley pitched 1.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits with a walk. 

Gary Kemmerling was saddled with the loss, pitching two innings and giving up three unearned runs with a walk.
