LE beats Tigers in 8; TV beats Bulldogs for league lead; Falcons top Aces; Mustangs fall to Red Streaks

SB — Logan Elm 3, Circleville 2 (8 innings)

CIRCLEVILLE — Logan Elm needed an extra inning to get the winning run across in a 3-2 win over visiting Circleville Wednesday night.

With the game tied up 2-2, Logan Elm’s Ryleigh Wolfe opened the bottom of the eighth with a double to right. 

An error allowed Jaycie Clifton to reach safely and Maleah Gardner (who entered as a courtesy runner for Wolfe) advanced to third. The Tigers (9-6, 7-3) then intentionally walked Lucy Caplinger to load the bases. 

Peyton Richendollar hit a grounder to pitcher Gabby McConnell who was able to get the force at home for the first out. McConnell then struck out Addison Smith.

Tia Fowler was next to the plate. She fouled off four pitches and took two pitches before hitting a single to right bringing Clifton across the plate with the winning run.

Circleville started the game’s scoring when Kaylee West opened the second with a home run to center. 

Logan Elm (14-3, 7-3) took the lead in the fifth. 

Richendollar opened the inning reaching on an error and advancing to second. She moved up on a sacrifice bunt and then scored when Fowler put down a bunt that was misplayed.

Fowler advanced to third on the play and then scored when Lynsay Vanhoose put down a bunt.

Circleville tied the game in the sixth when Claire Davis had a one-out single and came around to score on a two-out double from Ella Michael.

Sadie Binkley went the distance for the Braves and struck out 12 with no walks. 

McConnell walked three and struck out six for the Tigers.

SB — Teays Valley 13, Bloom-Carroll 6

CARROLL — Teays Valley took control late to leave Bloom-Carroll with a 13-6 win a half-game edge on the rest of the league

Teays Valley improves to 7-2 in the league while Circleville and Logan Elm are at 7-3. 

The Vikings (11-3) were down 6-4 to the Bulldogs (11-7, 6-4) entering the fifth.

A sacrifice fly from Avery Mann brought in Isabel Sayre to make it 6-5. 

Three batters later, Alyvia Lawrentz homered to center to score Brae Ferrell and Micah Mann and put her team up 8-6.

The Vikings used five hits, a walk and a fielder’s choice to generate five more runs.

Ferrell went 3-4 at the plate, scoring twice and driving in one. Sayre was 2-5 with three runs scored, Avery Mann was 2-4 with three RBI and Micah Mann was 2-4 with two runs scored.

Sayre started for TV and pitched 2.2 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with a walk. Avery Stratton got the win in relief as she pitched 4.1 innings allowing two unearned runs on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts. 

SB — Fairfield Union 12, Amanda-Clearcreek 1 (5 innings)

AMANDA — Fairfield Union kept Amanda-Clearcreek off the scoreboard until its final at-bat in claiming a 12-1 win in five innings. 

The Falcons scored in all five innings in going up 12-0 before the Aces scored. 

With two outs, AC’s Alli Rhymer doubled and then scored when Kaylee Roberts hit a groundball to third that was misplayed.

Hannah Bryan started in the circle for the Aces and went three innings giving up eight runs (four earned) on four hits with six walks and a strikeout. 

Makenna Singleton pitched two innings. She gave up four earned runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts. 

The Aces had four hits – doubles from Rhymer and Alex Martin along with singles from Averie Hutchison and one from Rhymer.

SB — Piketon 11, Westfall 8

PIKETON — Westfall had 19 hits but produced only eight runs to Piketon’s 11 in leaving town with a loss Wednesday. 

The Mustangs left the bases loaded in the first and second innings while the Red Streaks took a 4-0 lead. Piketon added three more in the third. 

After a scoreless fourth for both teams, the Mustangs pushed six runners across the plate in the fifth. 

The inning began with an error that was followed by two singles for two Westfall runs. 

Another error and a single loaded the bases. The bases stayed loaded after the lead runner was thrown out at home on a fielder’s choice. 

Adrina Hicks doubled in two runs, a run scored on a groundout and another single to bring Westfall within a run at 7-6.

The Red Streaks answered in the bottom of the inning scoring three times with two outs to go up 10-6. 

Westfall added runs on an RBI single from Sydney Fuller in the sixth and an RBI double from Ava Heath in the seventh while Piketon scored once more in the sixth.

Hicks pitched six innings for the Mustangs allowing 11 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
