Vikings beat Golden Bears behind strong pitching, defense

UPPER ARLINGTON — Teays Valley played error-free baseball behind a solid pitching outing to beat Upper Arlington 2-1 on the road Tuesday.

Brody Mann limited the Golden Bears to two hits during his seven innings on the mound. He walked four and struck out four. 

The Vikings had only three hits in the contest but took advantage of UA errors.

Westin Woodrum opened the game reaching on an error and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Landon Vandegrift hit a ground ball that was misplayed that allowed Woodrum to score. 

The Bears answered in the bottom of the first with a leadoff walk, a stolen base and an RBI single to tie the game. 

The score stayed tied until the fifth inning. 

Trevor Hamilton drew a two-out walk and then Jeremiah Fabbro singled to center. An error by the centerfielder allowed Hamilton to come around score the go-ahead run. 

UA didn’t get a base runner the rest of the way as the Vikings secured the win. 

Aong with Fabbro’s single in the fifth, Hamilton singled in the third and Luke Reese singled in the sixth for the Vikings.
