Circleville 3, Westfall 2

CIRCLEVILLE — Kaden Paxton recorded a hat trick as Circleville beat visiting Westfall 3-2 Monday.

“Sophomore Kaden Paxton was huge again for us tonight scoring three goals. Kaden is one of the hardest workers I’ve coached, and he is someone that brings it every day,” Circleville coach Evan Callihan said. “His ability to allow himself to be pushed and coached allows him to find success. He has grown a lot for us this year as a player and he plays with a lot of energy and fight.”

Paxton had the only goal of the first half coming on an indirect free kick with an assist from Blain Fowler.

“Blain Fowler made a big heads up play for us, setting up Paxton’s goal with an assist to get us on the board with our first goal,” Callihan said.

The Mustangs tied the game early in the second half on a goal from Evan Fritz.

Paxton put the Tigers back on top 10 minutes later when he put in a rebounded shot from Anthony Wade.

Less than three minutes later, Paxton scored on a free kick from 20 yards out for a 3-1 Tigers lead.

Fritz got the Mustangs back to within a goal with 12 minutes remaining.

The Mustangs kept up the pressure, but a diving save from CHS goalie Will Flory and a late shot that went wide kept the Tigers on top.

Flory had seven saves for the Tigers.

“Our goalie, Will Flory, made several big saves again,” Callihan said. “Will is another one that battles and competes every day to be his best. He had a diving save for us late in the game, and if he doesn’t make that save it is a totally different game.

“I felt our guys played with a lot of toughness and grit tonight. Westfall is a physical team, and we know they always get up to play Circleville. Westfall has a lot of hard-working kids in that school district over there and you are always going to get their best when you play them in anything. Our guys stepped up to the challenge and capitalized when we needed to.”
