Vikings softball stays unbeaten in OCC play; CHS, LE and Westfall BB & SB split league contests

SB – Teays Valley 17, Logan 0 (5 innings)

LOGAN — Teays Valley completed an undefeated run through the first half of the OCC schedule beating Logan 17-0 Wednesday. 

Avery Stratton held the Chieftains to two hits while striking out five and walking three. 

The Vikings pounded out 19 hits in the game. Makayla Jones went 3-3 with a two-run homer in the second and a triple as she had three RBI. Avery Stratton went 3-4 with a three-run home run in the fifth and had four RBI.

The Vikings (12-2, 7-0) head to second-place Lancaster (6-1 OCC) Thursday afternoon. TV beat the Gales 3-0 in their first meeting while beating the rest of the league by a combined score of 100-12.

SB – Westfall 10, Unioto 9

WILLIAMSPORT — Logan McNeal hit a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh to bring Gabby Henry in to score from second and complete a 10-9 win over visiting Unioto Wednesday. 

The Shermans had taken a 7-6 lead in the top of the sixth when they put four runs across with two outs. Westfall answered in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly from Kenzie Cook driving in a run and then Adrina Hicks reached on an error which allowed another run to score and put the Mustangs up 8-7.

A pair of two-out singles from the Shermans led to two runs and put Unioto back up 9-8 after the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, Reise Rogers and Henry had one-out bunt singles for the Mustangs. Jill Butcher put down a sacrifice bunt that scored Rogers to tie the game. Then McNeal came through with the game-winning single. 

Hicks went the distance in the circle as she struck out six and walked one over seven innings. She gave up 12 hits and eight earned runs. 

Henry led the offense with three hits, including a double. 

SB — Logan Elm 11, Fairfield Union 1 (5 innings)

CIRCLEVILLE — Kimmy Petty walked with the bases loaded to force in a run and put the mercy rule into effect as Logan Elm beat visiting Fairfield Union 11-1 Wednesday. 

The Braves scored three in the first inning and added six more in the second to go up 9-1.

Brittani Lane went 4-4 for LE with three RBI and Sadie Binkley added three hits, including a double. Peyton Richendollar and Morgan Arnold each had two RBI for LE. 

Binkley got the win for the Braves as she struck out two, gave up eight hits and one earned run. 

SB – Liberty Union 14, Circleville 0 (5 innings)

BALTIMORE — Liberty Union kept Circleville in check Wednesday to post a 14-0 league win. 

The Lions pounded out 15 hits while Circleville was held to two.

Susie Shultz pitched the shutout for the Lions, striking out eight. 

Audrey Cowdery started for Circleville and went three innings, striking out one, walking one, allowing nine hits and seven runs (five earned). Kyla Fleck pitched two innings in relief. She walked one, gave up six hits and seven runs (one earned).

BB — Teays Valley 2, Newark 0

NEWARK — A two-out double in the first gave Teays Valley an early lead that held up on the way to a 2-0 win at Newark. 

That double off the bat of Luke Smith gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead. 

Brody Mann kept the Wildcats under control as he struck out eight over seven innings of work while walking two and allowing six hits. 

The Vikings had only six hits themselves with Smith and Trevor Hamilton each having two. 

TV’s final hit came in the seventh when Peyton McElfresh had an RBI single to add an insurance run. 

BB — Unioto 6, Westfall 1

WILLIAMSPORT — Unioto took control of a tight game with three runs in the sixth inning on the way to a 6-1 win at Westfall Wednesday. 

Up 2-1, the Shermans had loaded the bases in the sixth and David Long laid down a bunt. A fielding error led to three runs scoring and put the Shermans up 5-1. Unioto added a final run in the seventh. 

Brenden Tuttle started for the Mustangs and went 5.1 innings. He struck out seven, walked four, gave up three hits and five runs (one earned). Noah Stonerock pitched 1.1 innings in relief. He struck out one, gave up one hit and one unearned run. AJ Pluta came on for the final out.

Stonerock led the Mustangs with two hits, including a double. 

Brenden Tuttle struck out seven batters in his start for Westfall Wednesday.

BB — Circleville 12, Liberty Union 5

BALTIMORE — Circleville scored in five of Wednesday’s seven innings to beat host Liberty Union 12-5.

Trent Smith and Chase Foster each had two hits and scored twice for the Tigers. Foster also drove in two. Austin Gray had four RBI for the Tigers. 

Smith got the start on the mound and went 4.1 innings. He struck out four, walked one, allowed two hits and four earned runs. Kiser Cassidy pitched .2 innings striking out one, walking two, allowed one hit and one earned run. Glavine Bigam came on one batter into the sixth and pitched the final two innings. He struck out two, walked one and gave up one hit.

BB — Fairfield Union 5, Logan Elm 4

CIRCLEVILLE — A three-run fourth gave Fairfield Union the edge it needed to beat Logan Elm 5-4 Wednesday. 

Up 2-1, the Falcons scored on a sacrifice bunt, a steal of home and the runner tagging up and scoring after a line drive out to make it 5-1 in the fourth. 

The Braves added a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Grant Cline. 

An error on a fly ball led to a run for the Braves in the fifth and an RBI single from Kelton Bennington brought in another run to make it 5-4. 

LE was only able to get one baserunner in the final two innings as the Falcons held on.

Mason Gentry started for the Braves and went 3.1 innings. He struck out two, walked three, allowed two hits and five runs (two earned). Cline pitched 3.2 innings in relief, striking out five.
