LE’s Arledge, Wolfe win sectional title

PORTSMOUTH — Logan Elm’s doubles team of Maddox Arledge and Mason Wolfe won a championship at this week’s Southeast District sectional tournament held in Portsmouth. 

They will be joined at Monday’s district tournament by teammates Zach Speas and Grey Braun – who placed fifth – and Circleville’s Reid Seimetz and Will Flory – who placed seventh.

Arledge and Wolfe opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rispress and Weaver from Circleville, defeated Gallia Academy’s Nourse and Walker, beat Hillsboro’s Fender and Koogler and made it to the semifinal with a 6-1, 6-2 win over No. 3 seed Glockner and Reed from Minford. 

They advanced with a 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 2 seeded Walsh and Carroll from Waverly before taking down the top-seeded team of Justice and Barnes from Ironton 6-4, 6-2 to take the sectional title. 

Speas and Braun faced Seimetz and Flory in the consolation semifinal with the two Braves advancing 6-1, 6-0. Speas and Braun took fifth with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Wang and Culbertson from Clay. 

Seimetz and Flory took seventh with a forfeit win over Minford’s Glockner and Reeder.

Jackson’s Landon Smith won the singles title.

The district tournament begins at 10 a.m. Monday at Ohio University with only the top finisher earning a spot in the state tournament.
