WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — After a rough regular season, Logan Elm has found some success lately and that translated into the No. 10 seeded Braves advancing past No. 7 Washington Court House 6-1 Monday.
Starting the season with a 1-16 record, the Braves have won three of their last four.
Grant Cline worked the mound for LE Monday. He struck out 12 Blue Lions, walked four, gave up just four hits and one earned run.
The Blue Lions (7-10) used a hit batter (who then moved to second on a wild pitch) and a single to center to take a 1-0 lead in the first.
Logan Elm responded in the fourth with a one-out walk by Carter Congrove. Zane Seimer followed with a single to right where Carter advanced to third and Seimer was able to take second. Keegan Diehl then singled to bring in Congrove and tie the game. Brady Neff singled to bring in Seimer.
The score stayed at 2-1 until the sixth where LE put the game away with the first seven batters reaching base safely.
Congrove and Seimer opened the sixth with singles and Diehl walked to load the bases. Neff then singled to right to score Congrove and Seimer.
Lucas Bialy was hit by a pitch to reload the bases. Kelton Bennington then singled to bring in Diehl. Josh Hunter hit a groundball to the shortstop and an error on the play allowed Neff to score and make the score 6-1.
The inning came to an end on an infield flyball and two strikeouts.
Washington managed only one base runner in each of its final two at-bats as the Braves closed out the win.
Seimer had a big day at the plate as he went 4-4 and scored twice. Neff had two hits, drove in three and scored one. Diehl had two hits, one RBI and scored once.
Logan Elm advances to play at No. 2 Fairfield Union (16-8) Thursday. FU won the two regular season meetings 3-1 and 5-4.
