Three days, 12 innings later – Tigers advance to district final

LOGAN — Circleville and South Point faced off for 12 innings over the course of three days before No. 5 Circleville advanced with a 7-5 win over No. 4 South Point.

The game started Tuesday afternoon with each team scoring four runs over the first three innings.

After five scoreless innings, the game was suspended with the score tied 4-4 through eight innings.

Weather kept the game from being resumed Wednesday so the teams were back at Logan High School Thursday afternoon where it took another four innings to decide a winner.

The 12th inning broke an eight-inning scoring drought when Circleville’s Jenna Boring started the inning with a double. Boring advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored when Kayla Fleck singled to put the Tigers up 5-4.

After a pop up and a strikeout, Circleville added a couple more runs to the tally when Claire Davis homered to right field for a 7-4 lead.

Josie Kidd started the bottom of the 12th by hitting a solo home run for South Point.

After a groundout, South Point got runners on with a pair of singles. The threat was ended with a pair of fielder’s choice outs to end the marathon contest and send the Tigers to Friday’s district title game against No. 1 seed Hillsboro.

Fleck pitched all 12 innings for the Tigers. She struck out four, walked four, allowed 14 hits and gave up five runs (three earned).

Fleck also accounted for three hits, scored twice and drove in two. Rylee Starner had three hits and drove in one. Davis had two hits, scored twice and drove in three.

Circleville (11-14) and Hillsboro (19-3) face off at 5 p.m. Friday at Logan High School.
