Braves, Mustangs advance – will face each other in district semifinal

Southeast District – Division IV
No. 10 Logan Elm 2, No. 2 Fairfield Union 1

SUGAR GROVE — Logan Elm pulled off its second upset in as many tournament games as the 10th-seeded Braves beat No. 2 Fairfield Union 2-1 Thursday.

A two-run sixth inning was the difference for the Braves, as they trailed 1-0 entering the inning.

Josh Hunter hit a one-out single for the Braves and Cam Ebert followed with another single. Mason Gentry came through with the decisive blow as he doubled to center to score Hunter and Ebert and give LE a 2-1 lead.

Gentry started on the mound for the Braves and went six-plus innings. He struck out eight, walked one, gave up nine hits and allowed one earned run.

Kelton Bennington came on in the seventh to get the save. He struck out two.

Gentry and Ebert each had two hits for the Braves.

Logan Elm heads to Logan High School Tuesday to face No. 3 seed Westfall in a district semifinal.

Southeast District – Division IV
No. 3 Westfall 6, No. 6 Gallia Academy 1

WILLIAMSPORT — Westfall had a strong start and held off Gallia Academy to advance with a 6-1 win.

Noah Stonerock struck out 12 batters, walked three and gave up only three hits help the Mustangs to the win.

Westfall opened the game’s scoring with an RBI single from Jaden Towler in the first.

Nate Wolf had an RBI double in the second, Brenden Tuttle drove in another with a sacrifice fly and AJ Pluta added an RBI single for a 4-0 Westfall lead.

The third inning saw Gallia Academy collect all thee of its hits to load the bases and a hit batter drove in GA’s only run.

Stonerock faced only one more than minimum in the next four innings to finish out the win.

RBIs from Rick Hanley and Pluta in the fourth rounded out Westfall’s scoring.

The Mustangs (13-10) now advance to take on No. 10 seed Logan Elm at Logan High School Tuesday.
