ASHVILLE — Teays Valley had little trouble advancing past No. 18 Northland with a 12-0 win in five innings Saturday.
The second-seeded Vikings will host No. 9 Dublin Scioto Wednesday with a Central District Division II title on the line.
Gavin Gilpen had Northland under control from the mound as he threw four hitless innings and struck out seven. He did walk one batter, but thanks to a good pickoff throw, he faced the minimum number of battles during his tenure on the mound.
Tanner Kelly pitched the fifth inning. A single and a hit batter gave the visitors baserunners to start the fifth but Kelly then struck out the next three to end the game.
An error and a sacrifice fly helped Teays Valley get out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
The third inning saw Teays Valley add seven to its total.
Westin Woodrum opened the inning with a single and advanced to third on an error. Trevor Hamilton hit a grounder to short that resulted in another error and allowed Woodrum to score. Hamilton would make his way to third and ended up scoring by stealing home.
The Vikings added baserunners around a pair of outs and the ran off four straight two-out hits.
After a wild pitch allowed a run to score, Tyler Mathews singled to drive in a run. Peyton McElfresh singled to drive in another run. Aiden Rains then doubled in a run. Woodrum finished off the hit streak with his second knock of the inning — this one an RBI triple to put his team up 9-0.
Brady Farmer led off the fourth with a double and Gavin Gilpen followed with a single. The next two batters went down on strikeouts but then Luke Reese singled to drive in a run. McElfresh followed with a fly ball to right and an error allowed two more runs to score to make the score 12-0.
Wednesday’s championship game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
