Braves take both sides of invitational; Softball champs crowned

CIRCLEVILLE — Logan Elm won both sides of the Phil Peloquin Invitational Friday night. 

LE’s girls finished with 113 points and Circleville was second with 57. LE’s boys had 108 points with Circleville second with 53. 

Amongst the highlights from the girls’ side, Logan Elm’s Marlo Smith won the shot and the disc and Claire King was first in the high jump and the pole vault. 

In running events, LE’s Evelyn Sykes was first across the line in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters and was a member of the winning 4×800-meter and 4×400-meter relays.

Circleville’s Kaylin Mankin took titles in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and was part of the winning 4×100-meter relay team.

In the boys’ meet, LE’s Owen Russell was first in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters along with being on the winning 4×400-meter relay team. 

LE’s Connor Kint won the long jump and was part of the winning 4×100-meter relay team.

Vikings unbeaten to take OCC crown

ASHVILLE — Completing a suspended game against Groveport-Madison Friday afternoon, Teays Valley beat the Cruisers 11-0 in five innings to finish their OCC schedule a perfect 14-0 for the second straight season.

An RBI double from Avery Mann followed by a couple of fielder’s choices that led to runs being scored put three runs across for the Vikings in the third to make a 4-0 lead. 

TV loaded the bases to begin the fourth. A run scored on an error and then Micah Mann doubled to drive in two more. Makayla Jones followed with a triple to score Mann and took advantage of an error to score for a 9-0 Viking lead. 

Two more runs came across before the inning ended as Avery Mann stole home and Rylan Writsel scored on a passed ball. 

Ellie Powell kept the Cruisers under control by allowing only two hits in five innings of work with no walks while striking out nine. 

The Vikings (17-5) are scheduled at Olentangy Liberty Tuesday. 

Liberty Union repeats as MSL champ

CARROLL — A leadoff single, a passed ball and two sac flies generated the only run of the game Thursday as Liberty Union beat Bloom-Carroll 1-0 to repeat as MSL Buckeye softball champions.

A 20-6 win over Fairfield Union on Friday wrapped up a perfect 12-0 run through the league for the Lions (19-1).
