Four area wrestlers claim titles

Vikings tie for fifth at Jonathan Alder

PLAIN CITY — Teays Valley placed five wrestlers to tie for fifth at the 21-team Ron Thomas, Sr., Invitational hosted by Jonathan Alder.

Licking Valley won Saturday’s tournament with 170 points, edging out Mount Vernon which had 169. Teays Valley had 113 points, tying with Big Walnut for fifth.

Zander Graham led the way for the Vikings taking first at 144 pounds and adding 29 points to the team total. Graham advanced by pinning his first two opponents and made it to the finals with a late pin of Licking Valley’s Devyn Boyd in the semifinals. He brought home the 144-pound title with a 15-1 major decision over Hilliard Darby’s Nathan Morris.

Kadin Walls dropped an overtime match in the semifinals but bounced back with two pins to place third at 120 pounds. 

Roman Younger lost his first match at 138 pounds then battled back to win the next five and place third for TV. 

The Vikings got fifth-place finishes from Jacob Robinette (175 pounds) and Tristan Graham (285 pounds).

Panthers dominant at Miami Trace tournament

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — Miami Trace dominated its own McDonalds Invitational Saturday as the host Panthers piled up 305 points with London second at 185.5. 

Circleville placed fourth with 134.5 points, Logan Elm was sixth with 115.5 and Westfall placed 11th with 101 points. 

Westfall’s Bryce Wickline had the lone championship amongst Pickaway County wrestlers. The sophomore won his three 157-pound pool matches with a pin and two technical falls. Wickline advanced to the finals with a first-round pin in the championship semifinals and won an 11-4 decision over Warren senior Brodie Tait to take the title.

Placers for Circleville included: Andrew Siembida (7th, 106 pounds), Landen Zarbaugh (3rd, 113), Tristan Scarberry (7th, 132), Lana Adams (6th, 138), Gage Bolt (3rd, 144), Logan Holbrook (7th, 157), Braylon Morgan (7th, 165), Mark Brudder (8th, 190), Noah Jones (4th, 215) and Trent Fulgham (3rd, 285).

Placers for Logan Elm included: Blaine Holzschuh (3rd, 106), Dawsen Hudson (4th, 106), Hunter Huhn (5th, 113), Gavin Hoover (4th, 120), Tristan Hanning (4th, 126), Brady Allen (3rd, 132), Hunter Schoenborn (4th, 138) and Scott Gaskin (8th, 150).

Along with Wickline, placing for Westfall were: Antony Hoty (4th, 113), Wayne Kitchen (8th, 138), Christopher Hossfeld (4th, 165), Glenn Keaton (4th, 175), Cameron England (6th, 215) and John Siders (8th, 215).

Two titles help Aces to fourth at Athens

THE PLAINS — Amanda-Clearcreek finished fourth at Saturday’s John Deno Invitational at Athens High School.

Herbert Hoover High School, from Elkview, W.Va., took the top spot with 349 points, Athens was second with 340, Simon Kenton was third with 233 and the Aces had 231 points. 

Luke Herron and Bobby Pieratt each claimed championships for the Aces. Herron took the top spot at 138 pounds and Pieratt was first at 144 pounds. 

Hunter Matheny placed second at 165 pounds. 

Also placing in the top eight for the Aces were: Landon L’huillier (8th, 132), Grant Guiler (3rd, 150), Peyton Beavers (3rd, 157) and Zac Julian 6th, 285).
