Mustangs knock Shermans from unbeaten ranks

Westfall jumped out to an early lead and added on important insurance on Tuesday as it handed host Unioto its first softball setback via a 6-3 Scioto Valley Conference loss.
The Mustangs scored once in the first inning and twice more in the second to take a 3-0 lead. After Unioto (7-1, 4-1) reached the scoreboard with a run in the third, the Mustangs responded right back with a two-spot in the fourth to take a 5-1 advantage.
Delana Landefeld set the table for the Mustangs by going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Gracie Henry was 3-for-4 and scored, Makayla Cook hit a solo homer as part of a 2-for-4 day with an RBI and run scored and Olivia Dumm also went 2-for-4 and drove in a run. Abbie Bickenheuser added a double, drove in two runs and scored.
Dumm checked the Shermans to four hits and three runs (two earned) in a complete game effort. She walked three and struck out three.
The Mustangs (9-2, 4-1) continue conference play on Wednesday at unbeaten Adena (10-0, 5-0).

Lancaster 5,
Teays Valley 4

Lancaster led a Division I top 10 matchup from its opening at-bat on Tuesday on its way to a 5-4 non-league win over Teays Valley at Berliner Park in Columbus.
The third-ranked Gales jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the first inning and went on to leads of 2-0, 3-0, 3-2, 5-2 and 5-4.
Michelle Brumfield doubled and drove in two runs and Michelle Brumfield singled and drove in a pair for the sixth-ranked Vikings (8-1), who resume MSL-Buckeye play on Wednesday at Logan Elm.

Circleville 13,
Hamilton Township 2

Cara Cooper smacked a two-run homer to help lead the Circleville offense on Tuesday in a 13-2 MSL-Buckeye win over host Hamilton Township.
The Tigers (7-2, 2-2) are back in action on Wednesday at Bloom-Carroll.

Bloom-Carroll 5,
Logan Elm 2

Logan Elm put together five hits on Tuesday in a 5-2 MSL-Buckeye loss to host Bloom-Carroll.
The Braves reached the scored in the fifth. Taylor Fowler legged out an infield single to open the frame and eventually came around to score on the combination of a single off the bat of Lynsay Vanhoose and a B-C error.
In the sixth, Avree Entler led off with a single and pinch-runner Casey Gaskin eventually scored off a bunt from Smith and an overthrow by the Bulldogs. The Braves (4-7, 2-3) host Teays Valley on Wednesday for a league tilt.

Bloom-Carroll 4,
Logan Elm 0

Logan Elm out-hit host Bloom-Carroll 9-5 on Tuesday but could not dent the plate in a 4-0 MSL-Buckeye setback.
Bloom-Carroll scored twice in the first inning and again in the third to take a 3-0 lead.
Carson Summers led the Braves by going 3-for-4, and Gavin Griffey and Grant Cline each went 2-for-3.
The Braves (4-6, 2-3) continue league play on Wednesday when they host Teays Valley.

Unioto 10,
Westfall 5

Unioto put away an SVC game with a four-run sixth inning on Tuesday to secure a 10-5 win over visiting Westfall.
The Mustangs battled back in the third with four runs and tied the game at 5-5 with a run in the fifth.
Unioto regained the lead in its half of the fifth and then pushed across four more insurance runs in its final at-bat.
Jaden Towler went a perfect 2-for-2 and scored and Brady Mullins was 2-for-4 and drove in a run for the Mustangs (5-3, 3-2), who continue conference play on Wednesday at Adena.
