Aces cage Wildcats in sectional final

Amanda-Clearcreek scored four runs in the fourth inning on Thursday to put away a 7-2 Division III Central District sectional final win over visiting North Union.


The Aces (17-6), winners of 11 out of their last 12 games, advance to a district semifinal for a second consecutive season. Fourth-seeded Amanda-Clearcreek is slated to travel to third-seeded Centerburg on Monday for a district semifinal, with first pitch slated for 5 p.m.


The Aces scored three runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Trent Hedges, Peyton Cassley, Cade Young and Kansas Rhymer then each collected an RBI to increase the advantage to 7-1.


Amanda-Clearcreek finished the evening with seven hits, led by Young and Ryan Chambers with two apiece.


Hedges earned the win on the hill, surrendering just one run on one hit over six innings. He struck out six. Hunter Matheny and Cassley finished off the sectional final win.
