Vikings sail past Braves in MSL-Buckeye opener

Teays Valley assembled a dozen hits and took advantage of six Logan Elm errors on Friday en route to a 16-0 Mid-State League Buckeye Division win in five innings at VA Memorial Stadium.

The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the first when Trevor Hamilton coaxed a walk with one out and scored on a double to center off the bat of Hayden Wells.

Teays Valley went right back to work in its next at-bat, sending 10 batters to the plate, producing four hits and taking advantage of three errors by Logan Elm.

Landon Vandegrift was hit by a pitch to open the second, Matt Farmer reached on an error and Jeremiah Fabbro legged out an infield single to load the bags. Wesley Henderson then hit a two-run single to left with one out and advanced to second on the throw home.


Ben France followed with a ground out to short that allowed Fabbro to score.


Hamilton reached on an error that chased home Henderson and advanced to third on the third error of the inning by the Braves.

Wells followed with a single to right that scored Hamilton and scored on a triple to center off the bat of Ivan Smith to put the Vikings ahead 7-0.

Teays Valley scored three more runs in the third, two in the fourth and tacked on its final four runs in the fifth.

Logan Elm finished the game with six errors that led to 10 unearned runs.


Hamilton was 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored and Wells went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the Vikings. Henderson singled, drove in three runs and scored, and Lanken Hankinson and Grayson Orahood each singled and drove in a pair of runs.

Farmer pitched a complete game, tossing 42 strikes out of the 52 pitches he threw. The TV senior walked none and struck out seven.


Mason Gentry doubled to pace the Braves (1-3, 0-1), who host Unioto on Saturday for a non-league game.
Teays Valley (2-0, 1-0) continues league play on Monday when it hosts Amanda-Clearcreek.
