Vikings claim finale in Volunteer State

Teays Valley broke through with a three-run seventh inning on Saturday, ending its trip to Clarksville, Tenn. on a winning note with a 3-0 shutout of Logan County (Ky.).

The Vikings posted a record of 2-1 during their three games in the Donny Everett Classic over spring break.

Hayden Wells and Jeremiah Fabbro each reached by error and Landon Vandegrift also reached when he bunted to advance the runners.

After a pop out for the first out, Ben France coaxed a walk to force in Wells with the first run of the non-league tilt.

Landen McFarland then lined a 1-1 pitch to left to drive in Fabbro.

Vandegrift scored the final run of the inning on a ground out off the bat of Wesley Henderson.

McFarland was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Fabbro went 2-for-3 and scored to lead the Vikings.

France allowed five hits and walked five in six innings to earn the win. Brody Mann recorded the save with a five-pitch seventh.

The Vikings (5-2) resume Mid-State League Buckeye Division play on Monday when they travel to Fairfield Union.
