AMANDA — While the event stayed dry, nearby lightning caused about an hour’s worth of delays at Tuesday night’s Mid-State League Buckeye Division Track and Field Championships.
While all running events were completed, coaches and meet officials decided the second half of field events would be contested Thursday at 4:30, prior to the running finals.
Logan Elm’s Maggie Wilson highlighted Day 1 for area athletes. The senior won her third straight MSL title in the discus throw with a distance of 116 feet. Teammate Marlo Smith was second at 114-3.
Wilson won as a junior with a throw of 115 feet and as a sophomore with 107′ 8″.

Fairfield Union took the top two spots in the pole vault with Kaeda Miller clearing 11 feet for first and Ava Wilkinson taking second at 10 feet. Logan Elm’s Claire King was third at 9-6 and Amanda-Clearcreek’s Kinsley Berger was fourth at 8-6.
Fairfield Union senior Christian Thompson was six inches better than her closest competitor in winning the high jump. The Ohio State signee cleared 5-6 while Hamilton Township’s Az’uhr McCullom was second at 5-0.
In the only running event held as a final, Fairfield Union won the 3,200-meter relay in 9:51.98. Bloom-Carroll was second in 10:28.24.

On the boys’ side of the meet, Circleville’s Auri Travis won the shot put. The junior had a throw of 50′ 11″. AC’s Peter Smith was second at 47′ 3.5″.
Liberty Union’s Caleb Hague won the long jump at 20′ 11″.
Fairfield Union won the 3,200-meter relay in 8:08.99. Hamilton Township was second in 8:29.70.
Thursday afternoon will see the boys competing in the discus, pole vault and high jump and the girls in the shot put and long jump. All those events will start at 4:30 p.m. at Amanda-Clearcreek High School.
Running finals will begin at 6 p.m.
