Fairfield Union takes both sides of MSL championships

AMANDA — Fairfield Union’s boys had a big finish to claim the Mid-State League’s Buckeye Division title while FU’s girls ran away from the competition to take the title on their side of the meet.

FU’s boys were down five points headed into the final two running events but went 1-2 in the 3,200-meter run and then won the 1,600-meter relay to cap the night with 158 points to overtake Hamilton Township, which took second with 145. Logan Elm was fourth with 89 points, host Amanda-Clearcreek was sixth with 54 points and Circleville was seventh with 49.

Chayse Lipscomb had a big night for the Falcons as he won the 100 meters, 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles as well as being part of the winning 4×400-meter relay.

The Lady Falcons amassed 205 points to easily outrun second-place Bloom-Carroll, which finished with 136 points. Circleville was fourth with 75 points, AC was fifth with 66 and LE was sixth with 54.

Tyler Teal had a big meet for the Lady Falcons as she won the 800 and 1,600 meters along with being part of the winning 4×800-meter relay.

Circleville’s girls had two individual champions in Thursday’s events.

Seen competing in Tuesday’s preliminaries, Circleville’s Bella Morningstar won the 400-meter title at Thursday’s finals.

Bella Morningstar won the 400 meters in a time of 1:01.85, edging out FU’s Abigail Pike (1:01.99) with FU’s Kyla Glasser third.

Several field events were contested Thursday because of weather delays earlier in the week with Circleville’s Sydney Lattimer winning the long jump with a leap of 18′ 5″. HT’s Az’uhr McCullom was second at 16′ 9″.

On the boys’ side, Circleville’s Lamont Holloway won the discus with a distance of 153′ 0″. HT’s Kyren Sheppard was second at 142′ 10″.

Overall, Fairfield Union’s girls won 10 of the 17 events with the boys winning nine of the 17 over the two days of the championship.
