Late scoring not enough for Aces

GALION — Amanda-Clearcreek pulled close in the sixth and had the tying run at third in the seventh but couldn’t get over the hump as the No. 8 Aces fell to No. 6 Northmor 4-3 Wednesday in Central District Division V tournament action.

The Golden Knights had taken a 4-1 after three innings Wednesday.

AC pulled close with Makenna Singleton connected on a two-run double in the top of the sixth to pull within one.

After a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth, Alex Martin started off the seventh with a walk. Haley Robinson reached on a one-out error.

Following a flyout in foul territory, an intentional walk was issued to Casadee Steinmetz to load the bases. Northmor’s strategy worked as it got Payton Singleton to pop up on a 1-2 pitch to end the game.

Steinmetz handled pitching duties for the Aces (10-12). She struck out five, walked three, allowed nine hits and four earned runs.

Northmor advances to face No. 9 North Union on the 19th. North Union was a 5-2 winner over No. 3 Fredericktown Wednesday.
