Falcons repeat as MSL Buckeye champs

BALTIMORE — Fairfield Union repeated as Mid-State League track and field champions as the Falcons won both sides of the meet at Liberty Union Friday.

FU’s boys won with 144.5 points with Hamilton Township second with 132. Logan Elm was third with 87. Circleville placed fifth and Amanda-Clearcreek was seventh.

The Falcon girls had 144 points for first place while Bloom-Carroll was second with 132 and Logan Elm was third with 87.5. Amanda-Clearcreek was fourth and Circleville placed sixth.

In Friday’s running finals, two local athletes claimed titles. 

Logan Elm’s Owen Russell took the lead with two laps to go on the way to winning the 3,200 meters in 9:56.48 with FU’s Connor Myers second in 10:01.23. 

Amanda-Clearcreek’s Gavyn Sowers was six seconds better in the 1,600 meters as she won in 5:07.20 while Fairfield Union’s Sadie Schultz was second in 5:13.28.

Hamilton Township’s Abdul-Jabar Ogunlana was the top boys’ performer with four wins. He was first across the finish line in both hurdles events and was part of winning 800-meter and 1,600-meter relay teams.

Fairfield Union’s Logan Osborne won the 200 and 400 meters and was part of the winning 3,200-meter relay team. He was second in the 1,600-meter relay as the Falcons were .01 seconds behind the Rangers. 

Ainsley Lister led the girls’ side of the meet with four wins.

The Bloom-Carroll sophomore won the 100 and 200 meters and was part of the winning 400-meter and 800-meter relay teams.

Athletes from Circleville and Logan Elm will start their post season next week in the Division III Southeast District meet at Vinton County High School.

Amanda-Clearcreek’s boys will compete in the Central District Division III meet at Hilliard Darby next week while the AC girls will compete in the Division IV district at Granville.
